HOW WE LEARN
HOW WE LEARN
We do not simply import the Japanese educational system. We adapt it to the unique academic, social and cultural landscape of Cambodia to create an optimal learning environment that we offer to our students.
JIC's Learning System
Features of CLA's Education
We cultivate individuals who seek their purpose in life – understanding why and for whom they learn – enabling them to grow personally and act for the benefit of society and others.
Students will acquire foundational knowledge through classes, and we utilize AI-ICT learning systems to ensure that knowledge sticks. Our goal is to empower students to design their own learning and cultivate a lifelong love for learning.
Students will collaborate and learn with their classmates, engaging in active, dialogic, and deep learning through both subject-specific studies and inquiry-based projects. They will come to understand the purpose of their learning, developing problem-solving skills and an appreciation for diversity.
Features of Learning at JIC
The ability to learn proactively and continuously is essential for navigating our unpredictable future. To cultivate this mindset and behavior, we incorporate 'inquiry-based learning' . In inquiry-based learning, there are no 'correct answers' that can be measured by tests. We design our lessons so children can formulate questions based on their own interests and curiosity—asking 'Why?' and 'I want to know more!'—then collaborate with peers to gather information, synthesize it, and present their findings. At JIC, children are the primary agents of their own learning. Teachers are not merely transmitters of knowledge, as in traditional models; instead, they strive to be facilitators who promote even better learning experiences.
The logical thinking required in mathematics and the ability to test hypotheses through experiments in science are crucial foundations for all learning. At JIC, we've incorporated Japan's high-standard mathematics and science education, which is recognized globally. Thanks to crowdfunding and the support of our generous donors, we've have completed a science lab. Watching children engrossed in observing through microscopes and meticulously recording their findings truly embodies the essence of genuine learning.
Also, we offer individually optimized learning by utilizing an AI-powered learning platform called "Surala" . This system allows us to provide learning content tailored to each child's specific level of understanding, something challenging to achieve with traditional one-size-fits-all classroom instruction or even human-led tutoring. "Surala" also includes gamification elements that stimulate children's motivation, and we often see students taking the initiative to engage in learning activities outside of regular class time.
By participating in a community where Japanese is used as a tool, students gain a "sense of value anticipation"—realizing the future necessity of Japanese. We aim for a level of Japanese proficiency that will enable them to study abroad in Japan in the future, providing age-appropriate learning tailored to their developmental stage. For students in the third stage (upper elementary school), we've also introduced systematic grammar lessons.
We are also dedicated to enhancing Khmer literacy. This is crucial because developing strong critical thinking skills in one's first language forms the foundation for all other learning. Furthermore, a major objective of our Khmer language education is to nurture students' identity as Cambodians, fostering an understanding and respect for their own culture and village.
